Critical Langflow vulnerability: what to review

A team builds an artificial intelligence workflow to analyze internal data. Everything works until someone discovers that the component running Python is not truly isolated: its code runs with the service’s privileges. This is the situation behind the critical Langflow vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-10561.

The flaw does not automatically turn every installation into a breach. Exploitation required an authenticated user able to edit and run a flow. Within that context, however, the impact could be severe: remote code execution, server access and privilege escalation inside the application.

What is Langflow and why does this matter?

Langflow lets teams create AI workflows by connecting models, tools, data and components. This accelerates prototypes and automation, but a component capable of running Python also creates a bridge between workflow logic and the operating system.

According to GitHub’s reviewed advisory, PythonREPLComponent and the legacy PythonREPLToolComponent executed user- or model-supplied code inside the Langflow process without effective isolation. The code inherited the service’s permissions.

Affected versions and remediation

The advisory states that versions before Langflow 1.10.1 are affected. The fix began in 1.10.1, with additional hardening through 1.12.3. The priority action is to update according to the project’s official guidance and verify that old components are not still present inside existing flows.

Updating is essential, but it does not replace an architecture review. If an AI process can execute code, it also needs boundaries around network access, files, credentials and databases.

How a useful feature becomes a risk

Running Python can help transform information, calculate metrics or prepare reports. Risk appears when the same feature accepts content influenced by a user or model and executes it without an independent security boundary.

In that situation, a malicious instruction or compromised account may attempt to read environment variables, reach internal services, alter information or acquire higher privileges. Python is not the problem; executing untrusted code in a privileged process is.

What companies should review

Inventory and version

Identify every Langflow installation, including internal tests, forgotten servers and containers. Confirm the version actually running rather than relying only on a configuration file.

Users able to edit flows

Review who can create components, import configurations and execute workflows. Authenticated access is not the same as trusted access.

Python components and equivalent tools

Search for Python REPL, command execution, custom scripts and expression interpreters. Remove unnecessary tools and move essential tasks into isolated services.

Service privileges

Langflow should not run as a superuser or hold administrative credentials. Segment the network, use a restricted service account and limit access to databases and secrets.

Logs and indicators

Retain records of flow changes, executions, external calls and privilege changes. Investigate unexpected user modifications, outbound connections and processes launched by the service.

A simple example

Imagine a workflow that receives a spreadsheet and produces a summary. The Python component only needs to read a temporary file and return a result. If it can also read the full server, connect to the user database and open external connections, the implementation has more authority than the process requires.

A safer design moves the transformation to an ephemeral environment, restricts available files, blocks unnecessary network destinations and destroys the environment after completion.

From patching to secure operations

At Ainoa, we build custom administrators and automations that organize permissions, owners, exceptions and traceability around the real process. An updated platform is the starting point; sustainable security depends on how it is integrated into the operation.

If you use Langflow or another agent platform, we can help review versions, tools, access and approval points. Request a review of your automation workflow.
